First twinning cities Bonn and Lautoka

The City of Bonn was very pleased to welcome a delegation from Fiji Local Government to coincide with the ICLEI Resilient Cities Congress in April 2018.

The delegation comprised the Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Mr Joshua Wycliffe, and the Chief Executive Officer of Lautoka City, Mr Jone Nakauvadra.  Two other delegates from Nadi and Suva Cities, sponsored by the UN Disaster Office, also attended the Congress.

The delegation was part of the new relationship between Bonn and Lautoka, the first city twinning relationship established under the ICLEI-GLISPA “Frontline Cities and Islands“ initiative.

The Fiji delegation participated in the Congress program, and also attended several high level events hosted by the Lord Mayor of Bonn and a study tour hosted by the Bonn Disaster Community.  This included visits tot he fire department, civil engineering, environmental agency and a range of civil protection organisations. The Lautoka delegation was funded by the German Government Engagement Global program.
